A Brief History of Bay Horse
![]() | Bay Horse was founded as a small lumber town a scant few years before the American Civil War. It managed to avoid the fate of Eminence, which was burned by union soldiers in 1863, and did its best to stay out of the war entirely. Bay Horse is mostly populated by the descendents of men and women who were searching for peaceful lives after the chaos of the Civil War. | |
Despite its commitment to peace, Bay Horse has not lacked for important local events, including the fire that began in Bay Horse's only church and spread through half the town. Bay Horse has also been home to a great many famous personalities that tired of living in the public eye and came to Bay Horse to retire. Many exciting stories came to a close in Bay Horse. ![]() | Bay Horse continued its quiet, peaceful existence until the early 1900s, when our beautiful church mysteriously burned to the ground. Through the quick action of our townsfolk, the fire was controlled before reaching the rest of the town. Today, you can visit the new church which was built on the site of the old church in the 1960s. While you're there, be sure to enjoy the nearby Wylie House. | |
